Final- Parramatta music theatre

 

Project 1 and 2, site analysis based on historical development of Parramatta and street grid system, high and low density and church street.

 

 

 

Master plan of Parramatta city analysis and Precedent studies, BBC Music box by FOA.

And form this, i got an idea of Open to the public.

Which was represented as watching and being watched concept.

 

 

 

Basically the main idea behind this design was connect the park and the site, which was designed by path way going throught the site.

On either sides of path way, it has sequence of different heights of building and people/pedestrians can watch the plays from outside, throught the glass facade of large theatre.

At the first stage of consider design for music theatre, i looked back to the first project that i did which was site context of Parramatta. Based on this, i thought that the density issue was important thing that i had to consider in this design.

Because current Parramatta project site and its surroundings have distribution of low and high density depending on the land use and parts, and this lead to the current 'LIVE AND DEAD ZONES'.

 

So i decided the issue as disconnection of public community, integration of surroundings, nature and manmade (In this, Nature means the area of Pricne alfred park, parramatta river and mandmand refers to the commercial, business areas which are parramatta station, square and shopping centre area up to church street restaurants).

 

In terms of design theme, i decided to use the word 'Proximity' ( in here, it refers to the relationship of space and users) in order to solve the problem of disconnectivity in the site. And based on the Benard Tsumi's Operatiove drawings, following concept diagrams showing the relationships between the key words and the theme Proximity in abstract diagrams.

Above perspective images were used to show that how the theatre space gonna be used by public and audience.

First image, i tried to represent the interior space how the users gonna be experience the sequence of space and the second image shows the public or pedestrains in riverside walk are watching the musical fountain from opposite site from project site.

1. Carlo Scarpa -  Brion Tomb

Carlo Scarpa's Brion Tomb is monumental designed for Brion Family

Space created by the walls of the old and new cemeteries and the feature of this design is that the perimeter walls are same height as the surrounding corn, includes island (Which visitors can not access).

Astounding detail is manly built in concrete and extensive use of water.

The idea behind of stage design was that create the basketball court in relation with the site context of parramatta. In the movie, basketball court interpretated as important space where the movie begin and their conflict started. So i tried to reflect this idea in to the connection of aborigial and colonial culture in parramatta and also, the meeting point of fresh water and sea water in the parramatta river.
